Liklukt: Into the deep
21/01/08 || Lord K Philipson
Forum member Floodhorse (a.k.a Tapir when it comes to this band) plays with Liklukt (“corpse stench” in English in case you wondered, which I’m sure you did) and he always sends over the demos these guys record, which is something I appreciate since they always sounded good. More so than ever with this latest offering. Continuing with their sea-theme (yeah, that’s right…), there’s alot of fucken references to anything and everything sea-like; the seas themselves, submarines, flagships, boats, Steven Seagal, poodles, noodles and James Brown. It might sound weird, but as you can’t make out shit from the vocals (the titles give some away though) it doesn’t really fucken matter. Sea what I mean? I know, I truly rule.
What Liklukt offers on this 5 track disc is some neatly delivered death metal with a (sometimes) quite annoying drum sound (the toms especially, then again – they don’t sound as awful as the ones Dimmu Borgir used some album back, and those are supposed to be real drums) at times. I even believe the drums are of that electronic kind, coz I vaguely recall that Floodhorse asked me something concerning that some moons ago. I might be wrong, but hey – it’s not that likely. Dan Swanö‘s done a good job mastering and fixing this recording though, so it sounds fine despite the minor complaints that I just vented.
Liklukt possess some melody (sometimes reminiscent of Amon Amarth, listen to the last track) in between the brutality which keeps them away from being a full-on brutal assault even if there are blasts and whatnot everywhere. This is a good thing coz it gives a fresh feeling to the material, though it’s really nothing special in the end when you think about it. But these ingredients make Liklukt a hella lot more enjoyable than your average shit demo band, that’s for sure.
This material holds up real well and I will wear the ugly shirt I got from them as a bribe (thanx alot, fucko’s) without being ashamed at all.
